Homeless Charity Claims Clare People Becoming "Entrenched" In Emergency Accommodation For Years

A block in the system is said to be forcing some people in Clare to become "entrenched" in homeless accommodation for years. The number of adults in this county availing of emergency accommodation rose to 75 at the end of July - while the number of homeless children across Clare and Limerick has increased to 191. Nationally, Department of Housing figures show a record 14,429 people are now accessing State-provided homeless accommodation. Head of Advocacy and Communications at homeless charity Novas, Una Burns, says while a period of six months or more in emergency accommodation was once considered "long-term", this is no longer the case.
