Now sitting in the director's seat, Korine proclaims he "hates art" and decides to trash any traditional film tropes to create "perfect nonsense" with Gummo, a fictional/documentary-style snapshot of the tornado-wrecked American town of Xenia, Ohio. Non-narrative, non-linear, with no protagonist or antagonist but an amalgamation of characters that live in the dark corners of Americana.
