Have you ever been told by parents and loved ones: girl you can't do that, people will think you're ghetto and have no home training!

Black girls and boys spend their childhood learning how to behave and speak in public, school, work, and predominantly white spaces. As if who we are is tainted and not good enough. The history of America and its Black people is filled with images of promiscuous and angry Black women. For many of us, a few lessons on how NOT to be what the media portrays us is just as important as earning a college degree.

In this episode, the ladies of BWH discuss what contributes to or causes the overly critical views of Black women and girls. How these stereotypes affected them as children and adults. Why do White people refuse to "fix" what was created by their Ancestors, how Black men and women can heal and thrive as a collective.

Articles mentioned:

A.) The Misunderstood Schema of the Strong Black Woman: Exploring Its Mental Health Consequences and Coping Responses Among African American Women

B.) Frankly, We Do Give a Damn: The Relationship Between Profanity and Honesty

C.) Jim Crow Museum of racist memorabilia

D.) The Black Kings of Europe
