US Judge Loren AliKhan temporarily halted President Donald Trump's order to freeze hundreds of billions of dollars in federal grants and loans, just minutes before it was set to come into effect on Tuesday. The judge’s order was in response to a lawsuit filed by a group of organisations representing grant recipients, which claims the White House's temporary freezing of already approved funding violates the law. The acting head of the White House budget office had instructed agencies to "temporarily pause all activities related to obligations or disbursement of all federal financial assistance". But the White House directive could have impacted billions of dollars meant for federal programmes, from disaster relief to cancer research. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt had said the pause in funding would allow governments to cut back spending for "woke" gender issues and diversity programmes. The past week has seen international diplomacy turned upside down as the US began talks with Russia to end the war in Ukraine. And will Ukraine have any say over the terms of a peace deal? Apple has removed its highest level data security tool from customers in the UK, after the government demanded access to user data. Advanced Data Protection (ADP) means only account holders can view items such as photos or documents they have stored online through a process known as end-to-end encryption. But earlier this month the UK government asked for the right to see the data, which currently not even Apple can access. Now the tech giant has decided it will no longer be possible to activate ADP in the UK. It means eventually not all UK customer data stored on iCloud - Apple's cloud storage service - will be fully encrypted. Israel has accused Hamas of violating the ceasefire deal after forensic testing revealed the body returned from Gaza on Thursday was not that of Shiri Bibas. The three other bodies handed over have been identified as her sons, Ariel and Kfir, who would have been aged five and two, and peace activist Oded Lifschitz, 84, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said. But the fourth body was not Shiri nor another hostage, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu alleging that Hamas "put the body of a Gazan woman in a coffin". A Hamas spokesman, Ismail al-Thwabta, said on X on Friday that Shiri's remains seem to have been mixed up with other bodies under the rubble of a structure after an Israeli air strike. The group told Reuters news agency they would investigate what had led to the wrong remains being sent to Israel. The rift between the US and Ukrainian presidents over Russia has continued, with White House officials accusing Volodymyr Zelensky of insulting Donald Trump. 1 Anguish in Israel as Hamas return hostages’ bodies, including mother and two children | BBC News 3:08
"The hearts of an entire nation lie in tatters” said Israel's President Isaac Herzog, as the bodies of four hostages taken alive by Hamas in its attack on 7 October 2023 were returned to Tel Aviv. Hamas said they were the remains of a mother and two children from the Bibas family, whose fate has gripped Israel. The news that Shiri Bibas and her sons, who would now be aged five and two, were dead triggered an outpouring of grief across the country. Israel has confirmed the identity of the fourth body - Oded Lifschitz, 84, a veteran peace activist - after a forensic examination. Hamas claimed in November 2023 that the Bibas family had been killed in an Israeli air strike, without providing evidence. The Israeli government not confirmed the claim. It is the first time Hamas has returned captives dead since the ceasefire began. Following Hamas's handover of the four bodies, thousands of Israelis gathered at Hostages Square in Tel Aviv and observed a minute's silence. Clive Myrie presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Paul Adams in Tel Aviv. Subscribe here: http://bit.ly/1rbfUog For more news, analysis and features visit: www.bbc.com/news #BBCNews…

US President Donald Trump's crackdown on undocumented migrants is continuing to cause fear in communities across the country. President Trump has previously said that he has no choice, and that deporting those who are in the country legally is "common sense". But there is an economic consequence to these deportations - many small businesses are owned by undocumented migrants, or rely on them as workers. Spain's former football federation boss Luis Rubiales has been found guilty of sexual assault for kissing player Jenni Hermoso without her consent and ordered to pay a fine of €10,800. He was acquitted of coercion, for allegedly trying to pressure Hermoso into saying publicly that the kiss was consensual. As Spain's players received their medals after defeating England in Sydney to win the 2023 World Cup, Rubiales grabbed Hermoso by the head and kissed her on the lips. The ruling also banned Rubiales from going within a 200-meter radius of Hermoso and from communicating with her for one year, the court said in a statement.
