1:55:44In this episode of the A Band Called Punchline podcast, the guys dive into the era of the 2010 album Delightfully Pleased . With the departure of both drummer and founding member PJ Caruso and guitarist and vocalist Jon Belan, Chris and Steve found themselves at a crossroads. Bringing back Paul seemed unlikely, but a reunion was on the horizon. Paul introduced a young drummer named Cory, who stepped in at the last minute to play drums on the album and subsequently joined the band. Recorded in Steubenville, Ohio, at a familiar studio, the album saw the return of producer Jamie Woolford, who had worked with the band on their previous album, Just Say Yes , in 2008. This exciting time also took the band back to Japan, though a misplaced passport left them stressing until the very last minute. Additionally, this era brought about the band's sketchy alter egos, adding another layer of fun and creativity to their journey. Delightfully Pleased marked a return to form while still pushing the boundaries of the band’s sound. 2:07:52In the summer of 2003, Punchline headed to Chicago to record their Fueled By Ramen debut full-length Action with up-and-coming producer Sean O’Keefe. These 12 heartfelt and energetic songs would expose the band to a bigger audience than ever before, both through rigorous touring and widespread distribution. While a growing fanbase and a huge hometown release show for the record brought a lot of momentum, the constant self-comparisons to successful peers added crazy amounts of pressure. Coupled with serious issues within the band, Punchline hit a breaking point in early 2005. For the first time ever, the people who lived the Action era talk openly and honestly about the peaks and valleys of this unforgettable time. By late 1999, there was no turning back for Punchline. They had made the important step of adding a fourth member, and they wasted no time getting back in the studio. This led to the recording of Major Motion Picture, an 8 song album that was packed with heart and harmonies. With a growing fanbase and a mutually shared ambition, it was during this era that the band decided to pursue a music career full-time. By the summer of 2001, Punchline set out on their first full U.S. tour. The adventure had truly begun. In this episode, the members reflect back on this exciting and hilarious time. 1997 saw the passing the Princess Diana, the rise of Tiger Woods, and the emergence of El Niño. At the same time, in the small town of Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, it also saw the birth of the band Punchline. Started on a whim by three high school friends with a shared affinity for punk rock music, the band has forged on through several evolutions of the musical landscape. In this first episode, band members and friends reflect back on the formative years of the band. Punchline’s music catalog can be found at http://www.punchlinemusic.com .
