Hi and welcome to SelfKind with me, Erica Webb (formerly The Movement and Mindfulness Podcast). This is a podcast about what it means to be, live and move through a lens of self-kindness. We’ll look at the way self-kindness can underpin our practices in movement, mindfulness, and mindset to support us to be and do the things we so desire in the world. It is my firm belief that self-kindness underpins any true self-acceptance, and one of the greatest pursuits we can ever engage in is that of being in a kind and honest relationship with ourselves. Mindful movement and developing a self-kind mindset are the tools I share and my guests do too - among much more. I’m thrilled you’re here. Let’s do this.

Hey there, and welcome to this episode of SelfKind with me, Erica Webb. In this episode, I'm exploring the complex relationship between personal beliefs, self-expectations, and being a highly sensitive person. There's a 'mistake' that you probably don't know you're making when it comes to trying to be a good *something* (parent, business owner, partner, human ...). Today, I want to support you to see where this 'mistake' could be creeping in. You'll hear: - Why you might so easily mistake your overwhelm and overstimulation for evidence that you're not 'good enough' - Why the word 'should' is a good internal alarm to get your attention - How nurturing and honouring your sensitivity will always yield better outcomes than trying to 'tame' it - And more. I hope you find this episode helpful. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Hey there, and welcome to this episode of SelfKind with me, Erica Webb. In today's episode I'm talking about something many of us highly sensitive folk face: dealing with others' emotions. You will hear about: - why empathy can lead to emotional distress - the importance of knowing what's yours and what's theirs - how to navigate emotional interactions with compassion but without giving parts of yourself away in the process - the role of orienting toward your values - why conscious choice in the face of others' emotional responses is key - and practical ways to stay in your own body when you feel yourself jerked around by the emotional state of others. Mentioned in this episode: Past episodes about Values. I actually haven't done ONE specifically (what?!) but you will hear me talk about values often. And we'll keep talking about it in the future, too. Let's navigate those tricky bits, together. In this episode I'm sharing a helpful analogy comparing self-care practices to mountain bike suspension. Yes, you read that right! Strength and sensitivity don’t often go hand in hand in one’s mind. We relate sensitive to soft, yielding, delicate. And yet, there is great strength to be found in acknowledging and embracing our sensitivity as Highly Sensitive People. In this episode of SelfKind with Erica Webb (that’s me!) I’m chatting with strength coach and Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) Kate Zanoni about her experiences as an HSP. You will hear: The importance of nature and the outdoors in Kate’s life The challenges Kate has experienced as a HSP in an often insensitive world The career pivots, changes and adjustments Kate has made to better suit her HSP nature The role of mental health support and therapy in Kate’s life Kate shares honestly and generously with us in this conversation, and I’m so delighted to share this with you. Hello, and welcome to Episode 280 of SelfKind with Erica Webb (that’s me!). This is a podcast for my fellow Highly Sensitive People! In today’s episode, I’m using the classic book ‘Who Sank the Boat’ by Pamela Allen to talk about overwhelm and self care. I think this analogy is going to get stuck in your head, in the best possible way. In this episode you will hear: How you can think of the ‘load’ of your day being similar to the cow, donkey, sheep and pig jumping aboard a little dinghy. Why it’s the tiny little mouse - the smallest of them all - that tends to sink the boat How you can intervene in this boat-sinking cycle, to either off-load some of those big animals or shrink them so they don’t take up so much space. Who knew picture books were so full of wisdom? Mentioned in this episode: Episode 263: Setting Boundaries as a Highly Sensitive Person Episodes 266-269: All about managing overstimulation as an HSP Episode 271: How to Say No as an HSP Episode 272: How can you honour your sensitivity as an HSP? Do you struggle with perfectionism as a Highly Sensitive Person? Or perhaps you simply know that you hold yourself to VERY high standards that often have you scrambling to keep up and achieve at the level you most desire. It can be exhausting running on this treadmill … In this episode of SelfKind with Erica Webb (that’s me!) I’m exploring this challenge faced by many highly sensitive people (HSPs) who find themselves trapped in a perfectionism loop. You will hear: What perfectionism is Why it’s so important to recognise the inherent imperfection of being human Why patterns of high-achieving and perfectionism can begin in childhood as we learn what we need to do and who we need to be to be safe in the world How to use your body and your self-talk to reassure your nervous system that you’re safe when trying something new (i.e. not doing everything to 110%) Why self-compassion is vital in this process The distinction between pursuing quality and excellence that feeds your sense of meaning versus the pursuit of excellence at the expense of your wellbeing About your host, Erica Webb: Erica Webb is a registered counsellor, somatic exercise coach and highly sensitive person. She supports other highly sensitive people to discover their sensitivity superpowers and more confidently navigate the tricky bits of being a sensitive person in an often insensitive world. Grief and loss - we all experience it, but sometimes you might not recognise that’s what’s going on. Join me for this this episode of SelfKind with Erica Webb (that’s me!) as I chat with grief, loss, and bereavement counsellor Ali Mills. You will hear: 🌿 Insights into expanding our understanding of grief beyond death, with an emphasis on the ways grieving can stem from various life challenges including relationship changes, loss of dreams, and other significant events. 🫸 Societal reluctance to address grief openly and the impact this has on us. 😥 The importance of acknowledging different types of grief, and how getting comfortable with discomfort can lead to better support systems for those who are grieving. 🩷 The connection between love and grief. 💡 Why Ali is inspired to impact change in cultural narratives to facilitate healthier processing of grief. About Ali Mills: Ali is a Registered Counsellor and Accredited Supervisor specialising in supporting clients of all ages with grief, loss, and bereavement through her private practice; Grief Guide. But what if I get too selfish? Do you ever worry about that? I’ve heard this worry enough times to believe it’s a big concern for us Highly Sensitive folk. So let’s dive into why this isn’t going to happen. Welcome to this episode of SelfKind with Erica Webb (that’s me!) where we’re talking about this worry of becoming too selfish when you commit to self-care, self-kindness and self-compassion. You will hear: About the cultural conditioning that teaches us to prioritize selflessness, especially as women. How this selflessness being put on a pedestal can lead to burnout and martyrdom. Why it might feel like you swing on a pendulum from one extreme (selflessness) to the other and how to find the middle (murky) ground. Ever heard that you're just 'too sensitive'? Yep ... same. And so has my guest on this episode of SelfKind with Erica Webb (that's me!). In fact, my guest Tina heard that message so much that she actually resisted the idea of being a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) for a long time. But something changed, and Tina is here to share with us what shifted in order to find acceptance of her inherent sensitivity. Tina Bramley, Psychotherapist, Poet and Highly Sensitive Person is my first guest in a series of conversations I'm having with fellow HSPs. There's something so ... gratifying in seeing our sensitivity mirrored in others. How do they navigate the tricky bits that can come with this trait? And how have they embraced and explored its superpowers? In this episode with Tina, you'll hear: - the challenges that Tina is mindful of as an HSP - the gifts Tina sees in her sensitivity - the ways Tina has responded to the needs of her sensitivity in her life - including in her work. - the role of nature, creativity and, in particular, poetry in Tina's exploration of herself. Tune in to hear our full conversation. We'd love to hear from you, so connect with us using the links below!
