Unearth our past... Career as Archaeologist
Manage episode 312376066 series 3233838
Archaeology is the scientific and orderly study of human cultures through the recovery, analysis, and documentation of material remains and environmental data, like artefacts, seals, inscriptions, monuments, edifices, landscapes and bio-facts and bring them closer to history.
In short, archaeologist unearths our past.
So, if you enjoy a combination of history and historical artifacts, and have a disposition towards new exploration, a career of an archaeologist can prove fulfilling. I have come across many students who show a keen interest in pursuing archaeology but end-up doing something else… as they do not get direction or support from parents.
There is a good demand for archaeologists in India and abroad. In India they are recruited by Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), National Heritage Agencies, Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), Cultural galleries, government and private museums, universities, and colleges.
Most of the archaeologists in India work in the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in its exploration, excavation, epigraphy, pre-history, and museum branches (for these jobs, the ASI diploma is a must). Today Archaeological Society of India is instrumental in conservation and maintenance of the 3,600 centrally protected sites and monuments, chemical preservation of antiquarian remains and the organization and maintenance of site museum, and publications among other things
