Screwtape is still hung up on who the patient hangs out with. If he's going to be a Christian, he needs to attach something to his christianity, and then be in a continual search for something new. Because the same old christianity will not do.

Screwtape realized he has made a mistake, and is trying to clean it up. In previous letters, he admitted that God really loves his creation. In this letter, Screwtape tries to set the record straight that God really doesn't love us, but has some other motive for His relationship with us.
