Peter Mehlman grew up in Queens, NY and graduated from the University of Maryland. He started his career as a sportswriter for The Washington Post and worked with Howard Cosell where he produced a TV series titled, ‘SportsBeat.’ His work has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, GQ, Esquire, LA Times and practically every Conde Nast women’s magazines. In 1989, he moved to Los Angeles, CA where he bumped into his friend, Larry David. After showing Larry David a humor piece he wrote for the New York Times Magazine, it was passed on to Jerry Seinfeld who absolutely loved it. Upon writing a script for Seinfeld’s first freelance episode titled, ‘The Apartment,’ Mehlman was hired as a writer and over the next 6-years worked as a writer and co-executive producer where he was associated with the show through nearly all of its 9-year run. Mehlman is best known for his ‘Yada Yada’ episode (which has been included as an entry in the Oxford English Dictionary) and his classical Seinfeld-isms: ‘Spongeworthy,’ ‘Double-Dipping’ and ‘Shrinkage.’ In 1997, he joined DreamWorks and created the TV show, ‘It’s Like, You Know…,’ a scathing look at life in Los Angeles. Mehlman also punched up the animated kid flick, Madagascar, where a hypochondriacal giraffe was named after him. He continues to write essays, screenplays, NPR commentaries and hosts the Webby-nominated YouTube series, 'Narrow World of Sports.' He also dabbles in stand-up comedy and doodles subconsciously under the concept of ‘Bravely Oblivious.’ Mehlman has published numerous books including, ‘Mandela Was Late,’ ‘It Won’t Always Be This Great,’ and his most recent one, ‘#MeAsWell, A Novel.’ For more information, visit www.petermehlman.com
