Just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip …” You’re singing the end of that song now, aren’t you? (You’re welcome.) That’s because the TV shows from the 50s and 60s that reran constantly during our Gen X childhoods took up entire afternoons, weekends, and summer vacations. They were our after-school friends, our babysitters, and at times, our surrogate families. And today, decades after they all first aired, they still hold valuable space in our heads and in our hearts. Join us as we rank many of them in a PCPS Top 10 (14) list as voted on by both YOU our listeners, and US (because obviously). Which were our very favorites? Will yours break into the top 3? What will be #1? Listen now to find out!

Friends don’t let friends miss this episode! Today we’re taking a hard look at the PSAs from our childhoods that warned (scared) us of all the dangers known to man. Putting out your campfire? Check. Not being a litterbug? Check. Not chugging the poison under the kitchen sink? Check. Making you feel guilty if your friends drive after drinking? Check check and CHECK. And not only are we remembering them, we’re RANKING them based on YOUR responses. We’re also solving that decades-long debate on “Smokey the Bear” vs. “Smokey Bear,” and at long last telling you what Timer REALLY was supposed to be (you’ll never guess). Listen NOW to see where Woodsy landed. Only YOU can prevent yourself from missing this episode! In the late 70s through the 80s, three soaps dominated primetime television: Dallas , Knots Landing , and Dynasty . These primetime dramas enraptured audiences and dominated the ratings with their opulent lifestyles, deliciously scandalous affairs, cliffhanger endings, and most notably, gargantuan shoulder pads. And today we’re diving into the glamour and scandal of each of these over-the-top shows, reminding you why you loved to love them … and maybe even hate them. Even if you didn’t watch any of these shows, we promise you’ll hear something that’s familiar (who shot J.R.?)! In last year's episode about Dance Fever, we came across an artifact that deserved much closer inspection -- and that was The Dance Fever Christmas Special. It was so craptacular that we promised our listeners that we'd give this gem its own episode come holiday time. AND THAT TIME IS NOW!!! (cue angels singing to a disco beat!). Much of our research involved Googling "worst Christmas special ever;" and guess what? Dance Fever had some stiff competition! Just picture Mr. T, Webster, C3PO and David Copperfield all vying for the top spot with Deney Terrio. It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. And we'll tell you all about it while listening to the disco version of The Little Drummer Boy. Fifty years ago GenX experienced its first taste of "appointment tv" when Tuesday nights meant "Happy Days." Join as we revisit "These Happy Days Are Yours and Mine." In this all-new introduction, we chat about what we've lost in the era of streaming television and the sense of unity and belonging created by watching the same shows at the same time. Happy Days was one of the most iconic and beloved shows of our generation, and one that grew up right alongside us. Join us as we share why this show was so important to the three of us, dive into the characters who felt like friends and family, share fun facts about the show and its stars, talk favorite episodes and spinoffs, and debate Joanie’s hairstyle. Which star’s family member has literally saved millions of lives? Which episode ended Carolyn’s childhood? And which host almost made her husband recite Chachi’s wedding vows? Join us for this encore presentation of our ode to the handwritten letter and you'll get an all new intro conversation about an important anniversary: Hello Kitty just turned 50 years old. 😮 Not even kidding! And that little Gen X icon has a surprising connection to the letters of our youth. We might also digress into a rant about the state of modern day Christmas cards. Heads up: we have OPINIONS. Maybe that's proof of how vital letterwriting was to our Gen X experience; before email and texting there was only one way to keep in touch with our important people that didn't involve long-distance charges (which your dad said was "highway robbery!") -- we put pen to paper and poured our hearts out in ways we would never do via text. Grandparents, pen pals, camp friends, and boyfriends/girlfriends, our relationships to all of them were nurtured and deepened by the handwritten word. Join us for our stories, your stories, and lots of hilarious readings of pubescent yearning and shenanigans. We’re celebrating our 200th EPISODE by revisiting all the traumas from the TV movies of our GenX youth (naturally). But before we get to our meaty conversation devoted to this very special art form that was low on budget but high on love triangles, deadly diseases, dying parents, killer bees, and so, so many hostages, we’re bringing you an all NEW opening conversation where we contemplate (yet again) how one of the most comforting shows of our youth — Little House on The Prairie — was also one of the most traumatic. What were Melissa Gilbert’s most troubling episodes? Oh, don’t worry, we asked her! (You’ll be nodding your head in agreement — count on it.) And then we’re acknowledging our 200th episode milestone … with a lot of disbelief and, of course, gratitude. In honor of Land of The Lost’s 50th anniversary, were jumping back in that yellow raft with our friend Wesley Eure (who played Will Marshall on the iconic Saturday morning show) with an encore of our 2023 conversation PLUS a new intro about bare-breasted puppetry (you’ll just need to listen). Then join us as Wesley blows our minds with information about the Saturday morning staple that we didn’t know, gives us funny Sleestak intel, shares fun and heartwarming stories about his Land of The Lost family, tells us about the show that our own kids loved that he was (in part) responsible for, Dragon Tales, and so much more! It’s true! We recently visited THE famous Brady Bunch house on Dilling Street in North Hollywood, CA … and we’re still pinching ourselves! Hear our story of how our visit came to be, the journey this house has taken since 1969 (and yes, of course we give props to the incredible HGTV renovation!) and our enthusiastic reactions to being in THE SAME SPACES AS THE BRADYS (well, sort of). Also hear from our good friend (and Brady Bunch expert) Suzie, who has been tirelessly and passionately adding hundreds of details to the house to make it even more authentic and groovy, AND from the house’s owner (and our new friend) Tina, who bought the house out of her love for the show … and who, with Suzie, is preserving this Gen X Capitol out of respect for all of US. And stay tuned until the end of the episode to hear how YOU (and a guest!) can win an all-expenses paid trip to tour the house AND have pork chops and applesauce with some of your favorite Bradys! It’s the grooviest of groovy episodes! Enter the Brady Experience sweepstakes here . Today we’re saying goodbye to one of the most memorable events of the Gen X era: the finale of M*A*S*H, which marked the end of one of television history’s most popular and innovative shows. We’re breaking down the poignant finale storylines and saying farewell, one tearful goodbye at a time. Which one of us completely missed the finale on Feb. 28, 1983 and then had such FOMO she pretended she had seen it? Who loved cross-dressing Klinger best? And whose sweet memories of watching her dad cry during this finale brings her to stirring tears? Grab a box of tissues, folks, you’re gonna need all of them. Join us today for a continuation of our discussion about the most beloved ancient relic that ultimately belonged to just one generation (hint: it was us): and that is the mixtape, a DIY medium exchanged between friends and lovers that was, on its surface, a way to share music but was actually a thinly veiled communication device intended to express our feelings to another person. There is one very particular kind of mixtape that we couldn’t fit into last week’s discussion – and to shortchange it would’ve been to erase an entire generation’s yearning for something very specific…Today we are talking about the Make Out Mixtape. Because of the age we were when we were making mixtapes – whether you were in middle school, high school, or college – a lot of our mixtapes were intended to woo. Or inspire special feelings that encouraged us to get closer to another person. Possibly with our bodies. Because we were in the midst of our sexual awakening. Even if you never got any action in high school, these tapes were aspirational. Maybe they were helping you fantasize about the things you would like to do if you were ever given the chance. Or maybe your tape was just step one in helping someone think about you in that way. Today's episode will take you behind the curtain of both Carolyn's and Kristin's adolescent makeout sessions and the soundtracks that accompanied them. Get ready for the swoonworthy sounds of makeout masters like DeBarge, Phil Collins, Chicago, Anita Baker, Lionel Richie, and Feivel the mouse (not even kidding). Time travel with us and let's see if we can get that estrogen flowing again!
