Welcome back to another episode of ReikiCafe Radio! This week we are joined by ReikiCafe Professors, Bruce Taylor and Christine Renee, as they talk through gratitude, Gassho, and gratitude practices.
Gassho is a fundamental aspect of a Reiki practice. It is the foundation of Usui Reiki Ryoho, represented by bringing your hands together in prayer position. The practice of Gassho is symbolic for non-duality. It is a physical representation of bringing both sides of your being, the masculine and feminine energies, into the center in gratitude for the present moment.
Gassho is a way to express gratitude with your whole being, to bring every aspect of your being into balance and connection so that you can foster a new connection with Reiki energy. Translated, Gassho can be taken to mean, 'With all of my heart, thank you.' Often, Gassho is taught as a traditional practice during Reiki trainings, and is also taught as Namaste in yogic teachings, but many Reiki students stumble upon Gassho through their own experiences.
To practice Gassho as a Reiki practice, you keep your hands parted slightly so you can feel the energy between your palms. This practice heightens your sensitivity to Reiki energy, and brings new perspective to your practice. The energy that resides between your palms in a Gassho practice is the energy of the Universe- it is the love that exists in all creation. Gassho is a moment to recognize the oneness of all things, and as you hold that energy over your heart, you bring yourself back to rest in that connection.
Not only does Gassho offer a space to come back into connection with the energy of the Universe, it also brings a balance to the Chakras. As your hands rest at Heart center, you are bringing the energy of the lower three Chakras to connect with the energy of the upper three Chakras. Here at the center of your being, you bring yourself back into balance, away form duality, and into the energy of oneness.
As a practice, Gassho can be a wonderful addition to a gratitude routine. Having a mindset centered around gratitude strengthens our presence and clarity as Reiki practitioners. Gratitude can be for everything, the big and the small. Each moment we express gratitude, we express our awareness and appreciation for the present moment to the Universe. You allow yourself to expand in light and love as you bring yourself into the present moment and acknowledge it's blessings.
