Catherine also shares her story of how she combined several of her childhood interests in becoming either a detective, FBI agent or a doctor into a career as an epidemiologist. It wasn't until Catherine's niece contracted C. diff that she became aware of the hospital environment and infection prevention. Even though the pandemic has raised awareness and interest in infection prevention as a career path, one key to Catherine's success as a leader is continuous recruiting and championing the profession.
