In this episode we offer mindful tools and strategies when encountering those with different beliefs that help you connect despite differences. Exploration with curiosity is a mindful way for mutual understanding. Reminding you that differences are a normal and beautiful part of the human spectrum of experience.
What’s your intention?
What would Connection Do?
What would Understanding do?
How are you alike?
We can treat others as we would want them to treat us, with respect, especially when there are differences in beliefs and opinions. We are experts over our own lives, and others the experts of their own lives. We cannot control the thoughts or actions of others.
However we can compassionately have an open dialogue with others even if we disagree.
The episode offers a reflection exercise on how you usually react during difficult communications. We offer how noticing our emotions and body sensations during the difficulty and asking that of the one we disagree with might be the start of using mindful communication to hold space for differences. Letting curiosity be a foundation with active listening can shift the difficulty into opening and understanding.
Common humanity exists in wanting to be healthy, safe, and happy and that most, ourselves included, are doing the best they can.
