This week's episode comes as my parish kicked off its RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) ministry, and comes on the heels of celebrating my daughter's wedding. Emotionally, I'm all over the place right now. Dads and Moms, I'm sure you're with me on this. Whew! Something New: Like I said, my kid got married. I've never done this before, so it was a real experience. I'm in no rush for anything else for quite some time now. Daddy needs to renew and refresh. I gotta say this though. My little girl was just so amazingly beautiful in her wedding dress. Her mother, my bride, was so elegant and gorgeous in her attire. My kids cleaned up so well and had fun sending their sis off. Did I mention being a dad is hard? Mind of Mediocrates: Let's talk about RCIA shall we? Every year men and women from all different backgrounds are received into the Church, normally at Easter. It is a beautiful sight to behold, which is why I cannot recommend highly enough that you attend the Easter Vigil and see this for yourself. But how do they get to that point? RCIA is the name of the actual rites that we use, but it also refers to the disciple-making process that parishes facilitate to help inquirers ask and seek and ultimately be formed as disciples of Christ. In this week's episode, I'll talk about elements I believe make an RCIA successful. Something Old: I am missing some Mad Libs action right now. I'm willing to be that at some point in your life, someone has asked you to provide random words (e.g. "give me a verb", "give me a name", "give me a place") and used them to make a silly story. Enter Mad Libs. I must have bought a dozen of those books in Scholastic Book Fairs. Did you? Help us out: Email me at mediocratespodcast@outlook.com.
