Rather than her being condemned as a witch and executed as many others were in colonial America, her condition was assessed and meticulously documented by a wealthy puritan preacher named Samuel Willard from Monday October 30, 1671 until January 12, 1672. Willard assessed Elizabeth’s so-called possession from a thoughtful, and scientific viewpoint, which was practically unheard of in 17th century.
