As the US entered the twentieth century, attitudes regarding the independence and sexuality of women began changing. Backlash to this change led to the passage of the Mann Act in 1910, which was meant to protect women who were being forced into prostitution.
However, as we explore in this episode, this act was used by the Bureau of Investigation to target a wide range of cases that had absolutely nothing to do with prostitution.
