Join us on The DMV Business Show with Otto Sevilla as we hear the inspiring story of entrepreneur, Keya Wingfield, CEO and Founder of Daksh Foods and Keya & Co. and winner of the Food Network Spring Baking Championship! She overcame challenges and leveraged her passions to build successful businesses. Keya, shares her personal and business journey, which began with her childhood exposure to diverse cultures and lifestyles in Bombay, India. She started her first business at just 7 years old, a photocopy service, and continued to work part-time jobs throughout her school years. Her entrepreneurial spirit was instilled in her by her father, an import/export businessman, who encouraged her to learn the ins and outs of business from a young age. After moving to Virginia, Keya discovered her passion for the culinary world and eventually founded Daksh Foods, which leverages her heritage in Indian culture to create unique potato chip flavors.
Keya, a pastry chef, shares her story of discovering her passion for baking in the United States, despite having no prior experience or knowledge of baking in India. She started experimenting with recipes and teaching herself, eventually turning her baking hobby into a full-time career. Keya started her custom dessert studio in February 2010 with cake pops, which quickly gained popularity at farmers markets. Her business grew through word-of-mouth, with Keya cultivating relationships with other business owners and entrepreneurs. She never spent a dollar on advertising and eventually introduced other products, including shortbread cookies, which led to thousands of orders. Keya's business continued to evolve, with her now focusing on creating a range of products, including desserts and consumer packaged goods. Ultimately, Keya's story serves as a testament to the power of entrepreneurship, creativity, and perseverance.
