2021 Showcase: Why Love

The Audio Verse Awards Nominee Showcase Podcast

Hi! This is Lissenny Florentino and I am a proud member of The Possibility Project and of the cast of WHY LOVE, our original podcast musical drama.
In 2020, our cast began meeting every Saturday all day. Our purpose? To change the world by sharing our stories and then writing, rehearsing, and performing an original musical Off-Broadway. But the pandemic got in the way. It forced us to cancel our show. So, we decided to transform our live musical into a podcast musical drama in four episodes and then record it.
We did that from our homes, during the height of the pandemic. It was a little crazy. But in the end it all came together.
The WHY LOVE cast is made up of 74 New York City teenagers like me from all five boroughs. We are joined by a handful of professional performers making special guest appearances. We were chosen based on our desire to make a difference and the diversity of the group, not on the basis of talent or ability or experience.
The stories in Why Love come from our lives and experiences. The show was written by us. And while no one plays their own part, the stories are real.
They deal with mature subjects, such as domestic violence, sexual abuse, suicide, family conflict, and the pandemic.
We wish much of what you will hear was not true. It is.
Our goal is to change that reality. And that’s why we came together and created “Why Love.”
Creating this podcast was challenging, exhilarating, frustrating, beautiful. It was a big undertaking. We are very proud of what we’ve created. We hope you enjoy it.
