Promises for a New Year Giving. Pastor Michael Dascoli January 10, 2021 3 Things to Know About God’s Promises 1: God wants me to build my life on His promises 2: God offers two kinds of promises: conditional and unconditional 3: God makes promises to us for two reasons a. To teach us to trust Him in good times and bad “My comfort in my suffering is this: your promise preserves my life.” Psalm 119:50 b. To make us more like Him. “He has given us His very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature…” 2Peter 1:4a 9 Promises Connected to Generosity 1: God promises good things for the generous "Good, will come to those who are generous." Psalm 112:5a “The generous will themselves be blessed…” Proverbs 22:9a: 2: God promises the children of the generous will be blessed “The righteous…are always generous…; their children will be a blessing.” Psalm 37:25b-26b 3: God promises to bless the work and business of the generous “Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the first-fruits of all your crops; 10 Then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.” Proverbs 3:9 Give freely and spontaneously. Don’t have a stingy heart. The way you handle matters like this triggers GOD, your God’s, blessing in everything you do, all your work and ventures. Deuteronomy 15:10 Msg 4: God promises that generosity is on the path to greater happiness “I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” Acts 20:35 “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions.” Mark 12:41 5: God promises generosity increases influence "The world of the generous, gets larger and larger. The world of the stingy, gets smaller and smaller." Proverbs 11:24 Msg 6: God promises that as I give I end up with more “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6:38 “One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.” Proverbs 11:24 7: God promises when I’m generous, He meets all my needs “Those who give to the poor will lack nothing…” Proverbs 28:27a “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” 2 Corinthians 9:7-8 8: God promises to multiply what I give Him 9: God promises that my giving is stored up in heaven “Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. 19 In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.” 1Timothy 6:18-19 Practical thoughts First: we practice “storehouse tithing” “Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. “But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’ In tithes and offerings. 9 You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me. 10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. 11 I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,” says the LORD Almighty. Malachi 3:8-10 Second: we also give offerings Let’s Pray: -What is God’s Spirit saying to you today? -How must you respond?
