If you’re a woman from an ethnically diverse background and have faced the metaphorical ‘computer says no’ when it comes to your job hunt, you’ll know that the playing field is far from level.
Yes, it’s difficult for women in today’s job market, but it’s especially tough for women who aren’t white, and studies across the board are enough to make you wonder why change is going at a snail’s pace. 🐌
The Fawcett Society’s Sex and Power Index 2022, for example, found that just 8% of the FTSE 100 CEOs are women and none are women of colour. Meanwhile, Runnymede’s Broken Ladders report found that 75% of women of colour have experienced racism at work, and 52% have experienced discrimination in the recruitment process. 🤯
This might be 2022, but we’re a long way off equality and fair play in the workplace.
In true TechPixies spirit, however, we’re not ones to look at an issue and not try to find solutions. So we’ve called on a woman we know can help: career coach Padma Knowles. And, as usual, she’s dropping a whole heap of helpful advice.
Here’s why you need to tune in
Discover how AI impacts the recruitment process and hear what you can do to increase the chances of your cover letter and CV getting through the screening process. Learn why you should ask companies questions about their diversity split at your interview and why Xero deserves a shout-out. 🙌🏾
Here’s what to listen out for:

[01:30] You’ll be shocked by this statistic.
[02:47] Padma talks about her experience of having an Indian name.
[03:25] What role does AI play in the employment process?
[05:15] Should you change your name as actors do?
[07:57] How can you increase the chances of your cover letter and CV getting through to the next stage?
[12:39] What can you do if you’re getting interviews by not getting the job?
[15:07] Hear Padma’s final top tip.
🗒️ And if you need some additional help, head to TechPixies.com where Padma has provided a list of recruitment agencies that specialise in finding work for people from ethnically diverse backgrounds.
🗒️ You can also grab Padma’s handy 7 Essential Steps to Career Success Guide.
