You might remember Ruarigh from his last appearance on the podcast where he spoke at length about The Danelaw Saga, a subject he quite literally wrote the book on. This week though he's here to talk about one thing and one thing only and that is the role of the Berserker in the saga literature and medieval Viking society. Were berserker's more akin to a kings champion? Why has the idea of a battle mad warrior so grabbed the attention of storytellers through the ages?
