Tristan joined the British Army in 1983 as part of the Territorial Army (TA). In 1986 he joined as a Regular full-time soldier with 1st Battalion The Queen’s Lancashire Regiment (1QLR), and served for a further 9 1/2 years.
In this episode he talks about joining the Regulars after being in the TA, his first operational tour to Northern Ireland, postings to Germany and Brecon (South Wales), and becoming a boxing champion.
Tristan also shares stories from multiple tours to Northern Ireland, his transition back to civilian life - which involved some time in prison, and coming to terms with having Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD); where he reached out for help and attended courses to aid in living with PTSD.
