This program, hosted by social worker and cultural theorist Earl Yarington, provides letters from patients that are in civil commitment. It is meant to be an audio archive, a collection of letters, from those that scare us but those we know little about. These men are committed after they served their prison sentences, often due to a technical violation, where one psychologist, employed by the state to civilly commit those with past sex offenses, can commit them for a host of subjective reasons. These reasons are loosely attached to science. For most men, this is a life sentence beyond the sentence they served. This podcast will provide a reading of each patient's story. Not only are these hospitals ineffective, with nearly a 100% failure rate, they also cost taxpayers up to and over $200,000 per civilly committed individual. Even for those with past violent sex offenses, their rates of recidivism are below 6%. Nationally, sex offenders are the least likely group to re-offend besides those with a murder charge.
