Luke McLeod is the founder of the Soul Society and Soul Alive; a growing community of like-minded people united to live balanced, fulfilled lives.

In this episode of the Human Potential Podcast Luke talks with our host, Oliver Freer, about breaking down the challenges and stereotypes of meditation; why 'leaving your tribe' is important and developing positive lifelong habits to deal with stress, anxiety & depression.

More about Luke McLeod

Luke dropped out of school and joined the army for five years and then went to study business and started a team building business with his friend whilst in University. He is now in the process of writing his first book.

Luke found meditation around ten years ago and he originally used it as a tool to improve work performance. However, at the being of 2016, he experienced a series of events in a three-month period that rocked him. This included the end of ten-year relationship, a shocking business failure, a major falling out with a close friend combined with his father and his brother-in-law simultaneously being diagnosed with cancer. After the traumatic series of events he found himself at an ashram in India where he immersed himself in the different teachings and traditions of meditation.

The key lesson he learnt through the trauma and subsequent teachings is that when there's no one to turn to you can turn inwards and find everything you need. “All the answers lay there and as long as you're still breathing you have everything you need. Everything else is just a bonus or a lesson”.

Coming back to Australia from India, Luke has made it his mission to try and introduce meditation to as many people as possible.

Over the past four years Luke’s guided meditations have been embraced by thousands all around the world and he has worked to bring the benefits of meditation into the corporate world including the likes of American Express, KPMG & Lululemon.

Luke’s latest venture, Soul Alive, aims to help introduce meditation to the broader community in a convenient and relatable manner.

Luke McLeod’s Book recommendation

Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl

A book written in 1946 chronicling the author’s experiences as a prisoner in Nazi concentration camp during World War II and the key lesson he learned from surviving the trauma.
