Ben Lucas is the owner and co-founder of Flow Athletic, an incredibly successful yoga and fitness studio based in Paddington, Sydney. Ben’s early career commenced as a professional athlete playing in the National Rugby League (NRL) for the Cronulla Sharks.

In this episode of the Human Potential Podcast our host, Oliver Freer, talks to Ben about how he came up with Flow Athletic in conjunction with Australia’s #1 yogi, Kate Kendall. He also talks about transitioning successfully out of the NRL.

In a crowded marketplace Flow Athletic stands out as an example of the power of a business based on defined values, a community-minded culture and principled leadership.

In addition to offering insights into his leadership style and business success secrets Ben opens up about the mindset required to compete in ultra-endurance events.

Ben is currently balancing his ultra-successful business, his fitness goals and family life with his wife Talitha Cummins. Ben still manages to find time to give back to the wider community through his charity work.

Ben talks about a unique idea he came up with whilst in a float tank. Ben is a man on a mission committed to constantly learning through the leadership of his business, his mentors and his ongoing love of books.

More about Ben Lucas

Ben’s Studio is now known worldwide, and the number of international drop-in clients is a testament to his unique approach.

In 2015 Flow Athletic won the Telstra Small Business of the Year Award and last year Ben was profiled in the Optus business feature.

Prior to getting into the fitness industry, Ben was a professional National Rugby League (NRL) player for the Cronulla Sharks and a number of other teams.

After finishing his stint with the NRL, Ben went on to own three successful personal training studios and during that time he also turned to Ultra Endurance running.

In the space of 5 years, Ben has run 40 marathons and 5 ultra-marathons all over the world.

Due to his interest in running, Ben then went on to train up 100 non-runners to run and complete their first marathon! As a result, Sofa2Surf was born and raised over $250,000 for charity in the last 5 years including $100,000 for Beyond Blue, a charity offering support to individuals for anxiety, depression and suicide prevention.
