As we continue our Health & Fitness Series; today I'm joined by Melissa Rohlfs. She is a certified holistic health and life coach helping busy women break free from sugar and stress/emotional eating so they can be calm, confident and at peace. Around food. Around sugar. In stressful situations. In their bodies. In their life. She is committed to empowering women to break free from dieting, emotional eating and self-image issues so they can ditch the diet mentality, and feel empowered in their own skin.
After her own tumultuous history with food {withholding and then later in life, bingeing}, she learned how to deal with the core issues around her broken relationship with food. As a result, she felt called to go to school and learn to teach other women how to do the same. She graduated from the Health Coach Institute as a Holistic Health and Life Coach in 2018 and is the proud owner of Free 2 B Coaching. She is a proud Boilermaker alumna living in
Tucson with her husband, Chad and two kiddos.
Via Time Magazine: It should come as no surprise that Americans are stressed. A 2017 survey by the American Psychological Association (APA) found that money, work, crime, violence, the political climate and the future of the nation are all significant stressors for Americans, each plaguing more than half of the survey respondents.
While stress is bad for the body, the ways people deal with it can be just as unhealthy. The APA found in a different survey that almost 40% of adults reported overeating or consuming junk food in response to stress during the prior month. And of those people, about half said they did so weekly.
What is it about food — particularly junk food — that calls to so many of us during stressful times?
Here's what listeners can learn:
- Making yourself a priority
- Why do we stress/emotional eat?
- How to handle those cravings?
- Seeking help when we feel vulnerable
