In episode 05 of Diving into Water and Sanitation Careers, host Josh Newton converses with Daly Wettermark, a product development owner innovating wastewater filtration systems at Xylem Inc.
Daly takes us through her water career journey thus far, from obtaining her bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, through a graduate development program, and on to her current role. Listen in to hear how her interests in climate-related work led her to a fulfilling career in the water sector.
Along her path thus far, Daly has collected a treasure trove of career advice and know-how, derived both from her mentors and from personal experience. Daly recommends, for example, paying close attention to who your teachers may be when selecting courses or a work environment, to maximize the potential to learn. She also shares about her experiences as a volunteer with Moonshot Missions, recommending volunteer roles as a great way to get connected with like-minded peers and learn from senior professionals.
In this conversation, Daly offers listeners of all career stages numerous thoughtful pieces of advice. Daly suggests that one great way senior professionals can support junior professionals is by facilitating connections and sharing career opportunities with those new to the field or sector. She also advises leaders and organizations to look within themselves to challenge the status quo in the sector and break open doors for those in water and sanitation to contribute to securing our planet’s sustainable future.
