It sounds like hyperbole, but it's really not: America is at war with itself, a kind of second civil war, this one a Cold War involving religious worldview. Our second civil war involves those on the one hand who believe the Bible is the divinely inspired, authoritative and trustworthy Word of God, and those on the other hand who reject the Bible, reject the idea of moral or absolute truth, and seek to live life governed by their preferences and feelings.
This civil war is well under way, and it is far more influential and far-reaching in its implications for the future of America than anything happening in politics.
