Navigating Rhode Island Labor History With RI AFL-CIO Union Organizer Autumn Guillotte
Manage episode 301463694 series 2939109
This week Shay and Elise celebrate Labor Day by taking Rhode Island AFL-CIO union organizer Autumn Guillotte on a date. Autumn is also an executive board member for the Rhode Island Labor History Society so she really knows her stuff. You'd be hard pressed to find a bigger Rhode Island Labor History nerd than Autumn, so of course we had to ask her out for a co-op coffee date.
We cover topics like the origins of Rhode Island labor unions (08:32), what kind of sandwich organized labor would be (13:47), and one of the largest labor strikes in the country that took place right here in Rhode Island (22:51).
For locals, you can learn more about the history of Rhode Island Labor by attending the RI Labor History Society's annual labor day address at the Moshassuck Cemetery in Central Falls, (978 Lonsdale Ave, Central Falls, RI 02863) the site of the Saylesville Massacre of 1934 on Sept. 6th, 2021 at 10am.
