Well, some real surprises in the Playoffs, INCLUDING the mighty Detoit Lions' season coming to an end at the hands of a rookie QB, Jayden Daniels and the 6th seed Washington Commanders. Though he cleared the concussion protocol on the sidelines, Jerrod Goff received a mighty hard hit in the chin and was not the same afterwards, throwing three interceptions and setting The Commanders up for their first trip to the NFC Championship game in over 3 decades! Philadelphia beat Los Angeles, as expected, and now hosts Washington next week for a trip the the Superbowl. No rookie QB has ever won a Superbowl, so Jayden Daniels stands on the shoulders of greatness. In the AFC, Buffalo did in the Baltimore Ravens, though it was close, a dropped PAT pass close to end Baltimore's season, and a good season it was too. The Kansas City Chiefs won their playoff game, as expected and host Buffalo in the AFC Championship game this weekend. ©Mouthful Media MouthfulMedia.com…
Results from the first weekend of the playoffs. In the AFC ALL the visiting teams lost. The next round is all Division Winners, joined by Kansas City, who as the first seed had this weekend off. The Division games look like this: KC hosts Houston and Buffalo hosts Baltimore. The NFC ALMOST ended up the same way, but Washington was able to squeeze past the Bucs in teh final seconds to attempt a game winning field goal. The kick hit the right upright BUT fell in to give the Commanders the win. Division weekend for the NFC then will be Detroit hosting Washington and Philadelphia hosting LA Rams, who beat the second best team in the NFL this season, The Minnesot Vikings. We run down the coaching sitch, who's out, and speculation on where some of the ousted coaches might wind up. ©Mouthful Media MouthfulMedia.com…
Week 16 roundup: The Playoffs are almost set. It looks like the 1st and 2nd seeds on both sides are likely to hold on to those spots. Currently, in the AFC Kansas City is the 1st seed, Buffalo is 2nd, Baltimore 3rd and Houston 4th. The wild card spots for now: 5 - Pittsburgh, 6 - LAC, 7 - Denver. Colts, Dolphins and Bengals are on the bubble. All other AFC teams have been eliminated. On the NFC side, the 1st seed is currenlty Detroit, 2nd is Philadelphia, 3rd LAR, and 4th is Altanta. The wild card spots, currently are 5 - Minesota, 6 - Green Bay and 7 - Washington. on the bubble Seahwaks and Buccaneers. All other NFC teams have been eliminated. The NFC is a lot tighter at the top than the AFC. Both the Vikings and the Lions could come down to the final week. At this point, Detroit holds all tie breakers or both Minnesota and Philly.…
Roundup of week 15 of the 2024 season. The playoff pic is starting to gel. NFC has some company at the top of the seeds, in that there is a 3-way tie for first at 12-2: Lions, Vikings and Eagles. Detroit wins the tie-breakers so far and retains the #1 Seed after losing Sunday to the Bills. We can kiss the season goodbye in SF, just not enough tools to revive a stuggling season of top-level injuries. In the AFC, the Chiefs have clinched a first round bye. Still many in the hunt in the AFC wild cards as well as the NFC. The last three weeks are going to be a track meet for the finish line and we're up for it! Plus best and most disappointing for the week. ©Mouthful Media MouthfulMedia.com…
Rundown of week 13 of the 2024 season. A look at the Playoff picture, both conferences are starting to gel and very few changes expected as we head down the home stretch. The elephant in the room: The 49ers, chosen at the start of the season to win the Super Bowl are mired in last place in the NFC West for a third weekend in a row after losing badly to Buffalo and now seemingly have very little possibility of making the playoffs. We talk about winning the Locker Room, helmet to helmet fouls, and our disappointments. Starting with SF, we move on to Cincinnati who ave been playing great offense, just can't seem to win. Plus our favorite games for this week, which started last Thursday. A whopping 8 games decided by less than one touchdown scored. ©Mouthful Media MouthfulMedia.com…
Rundown of week 12 of the 2024 season. Lots of byes this week, but also a number of "meh" games. Both New York teams have a problem, is this season a wash for the Giants and the Jets. Playoff picture has remained the same, except for one wpot, switching the Cardinals and the Seahawks after Seatle's win on Sunday. While the NFC West seems to be any teams' to lose, only one team will make it from the Wwest to the Playoffs and it won't be a wild card game. NFC North is the best conference in the NFL, and will likely stay that way. Dallas won! A little too little too late though. Saquon Barkley (PHI) earns our Best Player of the week for this outstanding performance and leading Fantasy points. Turkey Day football, Black Friday as well, going to be a great weekend upcoming. ©Mouthful Media MouthfulMedia.com…
Rundown of week 11 of the 2024 season. After missing last week due to vacation, I'm back this week. The season is starting to "gel" and the playoff picture is fairly clear for the Top 4 seeds in both conferences. Of note, the NFC North is a juggernaut, expect 3 of the 4 teams to make the playoffs, and tie up the wild card seeds. In the AFC, there may be some jocking for postions between seeds 1 and 2, but both current seeds should be in the playoffs. How bad are the Dallas Cowboys? The 49ers waste another late lead to lose in the final moments of the game with Seattle, virtually knotting the NFC West at almost a dead heat (literally everyone is the same 500 Won/Lose percentage and only 1 game out of first place). Kansas City finally fell this week from the undefeated pedestal, and their opponent, the Buffalo Bills, handed them their first loss, and likely not their last the rest of the season. Dad picks Detroit and Buffalo to play in the Super Bowl. ©Mouthful Media MouthfulMedia.com…
Rundown of week 9 of the 2024 football season. While today is the deadline for trading in the NFL, as of production time we hadn't experienced any new trades but fully expect some significant trades by end of the deadline today (11.5.24). This week, ejections, overtime gaes and the divisions are beginning to shape up at this midway point through the season. Kansas City is still the only undefeated team in the league. Baltimore and both Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry are cleaning up nicely as they get ready for their second half of the season. Cincinnati is marching back, but will find it tough to stay up with the Ravens. Arizon is hot in the NFC West with another blow out against Chicago. Last minute decision for Buffalo and Miami in an AFC East fight, lights out for Dallas in Atlanta. And the list of under 500 teams grows again this week. Players of note: Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, both injured, New Orleans WR Chris Olave carted off the field after a dangerous two defender sandwich and he laid out for a few minutes bus is expected to be ok. Bryce Young has a bright future, and a lot of heart. Detroit is the real deal, and, apparently, a "dome team." ©Mouthful Media MouthfulMedia.com…
Rundown of week 8 of the 2024 football season. Things are starting to gel in the divisions as we approach the midday point in the season. Some of these teams have to start thinking of how they can pull out this season, including Dallas, Cincinnati, Las Vegas, Cleveland, New Orleans, Carolina, both New York teams, New England, Miami, Jacksonville and Tennessee. This weak's squeakers were determined at games' end, but one in particular, the Commanders/Bears matchup was determined with :00 on the game clock, and a helluva hail Mary! Officials need to do a better job beacuse a key non-call hurt Minnesota's chance of a last minute tie to be dashed by a Safety, and really a non-call on the face mask that would have kept their drive alive. KC is still undefeated and picked up another Chess piece in their game to repeat Super Bowl wins. Detroit has shown that they are the ones to beat in the NFC as they spit out another unworthy opponent. Dallas has some soul searching to do if they are going to make a run for the playoffs in a dominant division led by Washington and Philadelphia (surprised? Us too). The Browns beat the Ravens with their 2nd string, veteran QB. This week's players of note: Jameis Winston, Jayden Daniels, Tua Tagovailoa, Josh Allen ©Mouthful Media MouthfulMedia.com…
Rundown of week seven of the 2024 football season. There's a lot to unpack this week in the NFL: from Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers reuniting and it doesn't feel so good, to Las Vegas picking a new/old QB and the injuries! Many are season ending for NFL stars that are already banged up. If you are the 49ers, you wouldn't think your luck on injuries could get any worse yet because they lost not one but 3 pass catchers this week, WRs by ready in case Coach Shanahan calls you this week. Cleveland thought they had issues, and then Deshaun Watson appears to be out the rest of the season, and last night's Ravens Bucs game saw both Mike Evans and Chris Godwin leave Baker Mayfield empty down field. Some gritty, grind 'em out games that came down to the last seconds this week, including the most important one for power standings, Detroit and Minnesota. Also Green Bay handing a last minute loss to Houston and the LA Chargers losing last second. We're at mid season and plenty of teams under 500, which will make it tough to mae the playoffs, unless you are a team in the NFC West, which is separated by one game from 1st to 3rd place. Plus blow outs (there were a bunch) and the questionable presser when Miami's Tua Tagovailoa stated that he'd give his life (essentially) to continue to play. And then there was only 1 undefeated team: Kansas City ©Mouthful Media MouthfulMedia.com…
Rundown of week six of the 2024 football season. Gone too soon Coach Robert Selah fired from the NY Jets, who's really to blame? A big week for runaway wins, specifically Detroit v. Dallas, Texas v. New England and Tampa v. New Orleans. Are the Jaguars the worst team in the NFL? Or did the jet lag last minute to London affect their performance? If so, they are still there to play again this coming Sunday. Now that the Eagles are back to full stregth, what's with that lackluster performance Sunday? A lot of teams are now looking to be out of the running at this point for the playoffs, in addition to Jax, Cleveland, Tennessee, New England, LA Rams, and Carolina are all 1 and... at this point. The West Coast offense no longer works, you must run the ball to win games. It's time to start winning for a bunch of teams that are two and and three and. Key injuries: Adrian Hutchinson The 2 undefeated teams (Kansas City and Minnesota) had byes. This week: Aaron Rodgers, Jayden Daniels, again! Trevor Lawrence, Joe Burrow, Joshua Patrick Allen, Davante Adams, Caleb Williams, Jared Goff, A.J. Brown, DaVonta Smith ©Mouthful Media MouthfulMedia.com…
Rundown of week five of the 2024 football season. Mutiny? Perhaps as things swell in New England. San Francisco drops another heartbreaker, and are the officials soft on the Chiefs? The Saints drop 3 in a row after an impressive start. All lanes in the NFC look like they will go through the very tight NFC North. Which leaves the other divisions to wonder if more than one team makes it to the post season. From the first London game to the amazing upsets throughout the weekend. In the AFC, disappointment in Cincinnati, while the Ravens shine, the Bills, Raiders, Colts, Dolhins, Patriots and Browns are all in need of some help, losing records become difficult to climb out late in the season. Key injuries: Derek Carr for the Saints, Jake Moody for the Niners and the ever growing IR list around the league. The 2 undefeated teams (Kansas City and Minnesota) win ahead of bye weeks and Jacksonville climbs out of the sole winless category and how about those Commanders? This week: Lamar Jackson, Aaron Rodgers, Jayden Daniels, again! Sam Darnold, Trevor Lawrence, Joshua Patrick Allen, Davante Adams, Brandon Aiyuk and "the Mrs." ©Mouthful Media MouthfulMedia.com…
