I’ve teased this episode to death and now it’s finally FINALLY here. Ironically, the day I published the prequel, I was so excited that I made this new book that I recorded this tell-all episode. But after its debut in September 23rd 2023, I felt something was wrong. I read it and nothing seemed right when I first published it. (Not a good feeling to have, but it’s not my first rodeo). I’ve been writing for a decade now and I’ve been published for seven of them. There’s going to be highs and lows, but not many people know about how low my lows have been. But I did find a way to get back up and here I am. In this special featurette, I had the pleasure of sharing what process of the prequel was like (before and after it’s publishing—you’ll find out why). I shared what chapter became my favorite, and some of the various Easter eggs that I sprinkled in there. Thank you for staying along for the ride The Company Of Crime is Available on Amazon. Fanfictions has taken a fascinating journey over the years. I'm glad it's still a creative outlet, but it took time for it to get to the point that it wasn't the butt of the stereotype joke (well it still is, but in better taste). It still gets to me that I've been reading fanfictions for almost two decades, and they don't get enough credit for being the leading way to a writing career (and whatever it was that EL James made.) part 1: Intro Part 2: The History & Impact of fanfiction Part 3: My time as a fanfiction writer Part 4: Is fanfiction still in my life? This episode gets personal. After releasing my prequel to Inglorious Ink, I had to stop and have a vibe check with myself. I asked myself, "Am I putting too much of myself? Are there any characters that show my dialect or personality?" I ran into that problem with the redux after cleaning up the story. I have to say, I still put the majority of my life in the book, but it's sprinkled. and OH BOY. Do I have some sprinkles to talk about. On this week's episode of the Parrish Passages Podcast, your host has a special preview for you. An exclusive reading of the first chapter from the redux series. Before you get that audible version one day, enjoy the off-the-cuff raw, unplugged reading. Doing the reading was surreal, I felt like I was having an out-of-body experience. There is something unsaid about the feeling an author gets when they read their work and forget they were the ones who wrote this. After all the frustration i went through all these years, I got this moment to feel proud I WROTE THIS. I could imagine the scenes coming together just as I did years ago when I first wrote it back in 2017. This is just another step to be taken to get Inglorious Ink where I want it to be, but this was a fun little baby steps to enjoy what I wrote. HEY OPEN ME! I’M NOT A TRAP HA HA I FOOLED YOU. Thank you for listening to this episode, ironically I didn’t think I would be doing an episode about confidence, the one topic that took time for me to get and saw this as a test of my own confidence. Know that this story is yours, your fictional one and your real life one. You’ve discovered the podcast notes! As a movie buff and TV trivia fan, this was a joy to venture into using my drabbles and rambles about these writer characters for an episode. I used to tell my mom, “Oh look Ron Howard or Kevin Bacon made this movie” and my mom would say, “Sami they didn’t make it, they just told people what to do.” After cinema classes and hours of learning of the WHOLE process, it made me realize I never gave the proper credit to the storyteller. If there is anything I’ve learned that I have to keep telling myself on days I don’t feel I’m producing good parts of the plot to my book or making constructive and conclusive articles. I have to remember that the flaws I see in myself are also present in some of the pieces of media I see. It’s comforting in a way that not every part of writing is going to be perfect and I’m glad these characters I’m talking about are accurately flawed to the process one writer has to take. It’s all apart of the evolution. Chapter selections Part 1: Guinevere Beck from Netflix’s YOU: Beck is an ambitious writer despite the way someone is ambitiously after her to be apart of HER story in real life, how is she a different writer being one of the newest modern writer characters? Part 2: Annie Easton from Shrill, this character was based on the book Shrill: Notes from a loud woman. Fun fact: there is double the writer power in this series. With the combined forces of comediane and star Aidy Bryant with Lindy West who wrote the essay. The adaptation of a nonfiction book was portrayed to realistic perfection. Part 3: Paul Sheldon from Misery: What happens when your biggest fan challenges everything you’ve ever known as a writer to wonder who is really reading your material? I stretched this part a little bit more to include how Annie Wilkes effected Paul Sheldon in many abusive ways of the danger Paul faced. He truly was in misery. Part 4: Hannah Horvath from HBO’s Girls: It’s a love or hate, no inbetween matter, the episode shells out all the points about this messy millennial commentary show created and written by Lena Dunham. Many traits and commentaries about these characters will be mentioned in the next episode, you’ll find out which characters and what moments I’ll be recapping about in the next episode How Far is Too Far? Hey there! You have reached the info column for more about the show! Today’s episode was a relief; I’ve been itching with anticipation to share something about the second book since I started working on it. I finally got to give some snippets about what’s going on with my scrappy scheming characters in their blue collar crime life. What is this episode about? I’ll dish the dialogue dirt about what the tagline title is called What is going on with tattoo crew after the events of the first book What new problems do they face? Writing this book has been a challenge for me as a writer, I now know why sequels can be a make or break. The sequel details all the characters that now find themselves in a tougher problem worse than their first problem. The plot of the next book gives a whole new meaning to “It can’t get any worse.” Instagram – parrishpassages tiktok – themysticalspacewitch Hey you made it this far down, why don’t you check out my book since you liked my show! On the way to eight episodes, wow! Thank you for listening to this episode, this one was hard in the production, I think I have a newfound respect for entertainers and creators that can think fast on their feet for material. Working on this show has been a testament to what I can do for adlibbing, it’s funny, as much as I talk to myself, it’s different talking to myself knowing I’m talking to others. Working in a closet that feels like a sauna defiantly puts turns the heat up. Despite the production problems that happened, it’s obvious in the beginning as the audio goes from being an obnoxious loud infomercial to the soft sound of the TV show that makes you grab for the remote to turn the TV down. In the creating of a story, everyone has their favorite moment, but there are some moments to be proud of for the creation of a certain part of the plot that escalates into a wonderful moment of pride to be a writer. I’ll sit there and have this satisfied feeling that I created something that is special to me, no one else may or may not know it but as long as it exists on the page, it is as valuable as all the treasures. I have three parts to share here, the first part sharing the commentary about the scene of Cassie’s mental health, it deals with mental health problems. In the second section, I share the commentary of the intense scene of the insight to Bullet’s family life with explaining how she has family problems without having to acknowledge without addressing it, and third, the fate and future of a minor character in Lance’s past that may possibly be my favorite character despite-oh I’m not going to tell you, you’ll have to listen to the episode. Excuse some of the mumble fumbles in the second and third part, working on an episode that took three times took away some grammar…and some sanity but I didn’t need that part. Hello listeners, welcome to the seventh episode! The people that know me in real life would know that I am CHOCK FULL of major movie knowledge, and when it was time for writing, my style of writing became specialized for Stephen King it was Maine and Horror, that was his main thing. For John Grisham it’s lawyers in trouble For me, it's music and movies. Many creators have their one thing they gush over and it’s evident in their books. For me it’s movies. I have no shame and it’s always pointed out about the major movie knowledge I have. So I put it in my books. There are nostalgic things I wanted touch up on, things I know but never shared, there are lot of people that get movie and music trivia and it’s what I’m known for. It became my style to go with my dark humor tone. I don’t think you’ll find a book that has as many pop culture references that range from obscure to current. In the further development, I realized that the people that would buy this book would get to refresh their memory on something they forgot or learn something new. So this is something you’ll learn as to why there is a reference to a film. I didn’t just put in random titles of films and music to just put that in there without proper plot connection. I made the mention count as an important reference. Now with that being mentioned, there will be some pivotal character reveals, but it won’t be an entire spoiler, think of it from 10 references to 10 sneak peaks about the story. If you have any questions about the book or just want to talk book in general, don’t hesitate to shoot me a message on social media, I’ll respond back ASAP Instagram – parrishpassages tiktok – themysticalspacewitch Hey you made it this far down, why don’t you check out my book since you liked my show! Hello listeners, welcome to the sixth episode! For this episode of the show, we are continuing on with the creation topic by dissecting and analyzing the idea of a villain. The sections for the episode are in order 1. Ask the question again: What is a villain? 2. The different types of villains 3. Character examples of villains 4. My own villains I’ve created for Inglorious Ink 5. The homework The progress of this episode made me look at villains differently then I have before, it wasn’t until recording that I realized how diverse and unique villains can be. As much as I love the hero, the villain is truly what I look for in a story. Even as I made my own, I knew with my knowledge of other villains, I had to make sure my bad guys weren’t copy and paste villains. The Villain process wasn’t easy, and I want to make that process easier for the others, it’s not much to offer since I’d rather read about them or watch them (hence why the homework was minimal material), but something is better nothing at all. If you have any knowledge at all or comments to make, let me know how you feel about villains. Are they your favorite part of the story? What is your favorite villain? Apologies in advance for the choppy quality of this episode, when I was editing it, some of the material wasn’t accurate or even remotely interesting. I have mentioned that I do repeat myself in some of these episodes, and there was a lot of repetition to the point that the editing process felt like Groundhog Day. Hello listeners, welcome to the fifth episode! Welcome to plot problems 101. Story telling is like a road, there are many confusing routes and many times to get turned around and get lost. This is a different take on the problems of plot points through the story process, I cover everything from taking the plot problems apart by asking yourself questions in regards to the puzzling process of your plot, re-reading your material, re-evaluating what you find entertaining to make sure your entertainment will be understood, and taking a chance for plot to be different by going against your original ideas. For a minor emphasis on the example reference I did, in the short lived show, Masters of Sex, the main character had stated he wasn’t like his father. Then instead of telling the truth about his situation and how he doesn’t like it, he reveals something that makes him exactly like this father. By telling that information to his mother, he made his life harder by that reveal. That scene was a spot on in a change of character that was confusing to see but showed how motives and altered character personality can happen in an instant. If you ever watch the show, it’s a good example of questions of motives. It is on my episode list to revisit this topic; I will admit that I wish I included a section on this episode that had to dive into the different types of plot problems on clichés’. But it’s a point I know to talk about when that episode will be produced, thank you for listening to a VERY different take on the help for the friction of fiction. Hello listeners, welcome to the fourth episode. It is a little obvious that this episode is gravitated more towards the idea of standup comedy then regular comedy, but you can use this information however you see fit. I do apologize for the repetition into some of the segments. As much as I chase down bits and pieces I repeated on accident, some of it had to stay because it was too close to my other sentence so it would be an edit risk to cut something so close. I made a grammar gabble at the beginning, I don’t know why in the world I said watch until I turned around and realized I messed up, we’re human, it happens. BUT here is your list of the virtual table of content to follow along in this episode -How to identify your comedic nature -How to have confidence -My stand up story -Full circle tactic -Conclusion -Sappy Sami Message about Scheduling I defiantly have to say that despite the weird unorganized order this show was in, the stand up stories is the strongest point in this episode. Of everything I mentioned for the topics within this episodes. The stand up segment has everything mentioned. I’ll go ahead and say it that this episode didn’t turn out like I thought it would, this was a first try to not rely upon my scripts and I needed to think more. But by saying that, as much as it was wracking with worries and nerves the first part of the show (hence the weak segues and repetition) but on the last part of this show, I noticed that it flows better with confidence and makeshift dialogue that came out on the spot for the show. There is a continual growth that I’ve noticed in these episodes that halfway through recording, I get into the rhythm of the show and I can ride out with some commentary that I didn’t think of originally when I wrote the script. There are always these pleasant surprises to find out the hidden strengths over time with confidence and finding smarts that are discovered. Hello listeners, welcome to the third episode, all about the man who makes the macabre manga, Junji Ito. This is going to be a different type of episode with the way it’s presented to make the commentary, about horror and using Junji Ito as examples as opposed to making an episode that was originally going to be about all his works, I opted for a strategic commentary approach. In the anticipation for Junji Ito’s anime adaptation of Uzumaki, let’s take a look at how horror is changed because of Junji Ito. If you haven’t heard of him, then you’re about to have your whole perspective on horror changed because of him. Junji Ito changed the way I look at the horror genre now, and he’s changed me as a writer to go for the unexpected and think of something that people never think about. His mangas have made such an impact on me that, I’ve even referenced his works in my own book. I did make an error in this with the set up about Junji Ito’s origin, when I mentioned about how he had to go downstairs, I failed to include “to the basement”. It was too late before I could fix this part, that’s my bad, I’m human, we make these minor mistakes and that’s Ok, I’ll do better next time. Another error I made was my point about the scariest depiction which is certain figures in HISTORY that are presented by an actor (Kind of like Zac Efron playing Ted Bundy for example). I didn’t elaborate on this part very well and I take the hit for it. Thanks for understanding, I’ll get better about pointing out my points~ So did you like the podcast and want more junji ito commentary from yours truly, bing ba-da boom! Hello creators! Thank you for listening to this podcast. I don’t know if this will be out at the end of February, but as long as it was as close as possible, then that’s OK with me. February was one frustrating month, so the production for this took longer than I thought. It’s hard to believe it's been a whole year of being a published author. It has been a journey with my first book; I never thought that of all the stories I’ve started that the one I would create would be about scheming tattoo artists that have a risky business. Inglorious Ink has shaped me into the author that I am; I found who I am as a storyteller. I had moments I fell to my knees and cried for these characters, these are precious fictional characters that I hope can entertain and comfort others as the process for this plot as done for me. I found my path as a writer but I also found my relief for my psyche to share the turmoil and raw realism for life. There is something I’d like to explain about this episode, some very obvious things. The audio might sound like it got cut off on a couple places, there were some choice words that weren’t correct or appropriate. It has been mentioned in the last podcast that I talk too fast, like I could outdo the speed of Sonic The Hedgehog. Sometime I can’t catch that nanosecond of one part I was about to say due to the way I talk. Thank you for the patience as I’m still trying to be patient with myself to talk slower. This was also the second time I recorded it, and most of the material had to be scrapped. This was a mess to try to make it as flowing as possible, but I am the hostess with the most mess, it does make sense I’d make a mess. I do feel that I didn’t get enough material in one area that I deemed to not be elaborated enough. In the future I’ll be doing more episodes about Inglorious Ink, so I’ll be sure to get my own redemption, though I hope it won’t be under stress like what happened during the production of this episode. These past couple episodes have been frustrating in experimentation between script writing and technical troubleshooting. Its baby steps for someone like me who is still getting used to this casual outlet. I’ve been doing my homework and taking the discipline to know that if I want this done, I want it done right. If you have any questions about the book or just want to talk book in general, don’t hesitate to shoot me a message on social media, I’ll respond back ASAP Instagram – parrishpassages tiktok – themysticalspacewitch (if you follow me on tikok, I read paragraphs of the book in a celebrity impression, check it out for a preview and a laugh!) Welcome to the first official episode of the Parrish Passages Podcast. We’re starting the show out with a genre analysis; the discussion of dark humor will be the topic. So where did it come from? Why do we like it? What’s the appeal? I’m a writer of this genre and I’ll be revealing how this became the bold bizarre way to present my stories. Throughout this episode, the sound is a little warbled and wild from my tone of voice going up and down from my enthusiasm, as well as learning to test out the sound of being near and far from the microphone. I’m still tinkering with this program to have a polished sound, I'm still checking myself to keep calm and controlled. I'll just have to take a cue from John Wayne, talk slow and talk low. I’ll have to work on that for the next couple of episodes. I’m still getting used to how this outlet works with the balance of the structure to create the show to be entertaining and enticing, as well as polished and professional. The future episodes will be better, but I appreciate the patience for my minor mishaps and sound screeches. Thanks for listening and stay tuned for the show~ If you would like to read the article I wrote about this same topic, here’s the link to peruse it at your amusement - https://vocal.media/journal/why-i-write-dark-humor Podcast Important notes Cover art by Emily Whitacre ( https://teenytinycoffeebean.carrd.co/ ) Credit to song creator - Drowned - Lesion X https://soundcloud.com/lesionxbeats Creative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported — CC BY 3.0 Free Download / Stream: http://bit.ly/al-drowned Music promoted by Audio Library https://youtu.be/8kYMOn3XNOk My Inglorious Ink Series! - https://www.amazon.com/stores/Samantha-Parrish/author/B0BNQ2D7D1?ref=ap_rdr&store_ref=ap_rdr&isDramIntegrated=true&shoppingPortalEnabled=true…
Hello there and welcome to the show! Thank you so much for taking the time to add this to your list of podcasts! Its very obvious that I'm very much a novice to this criteria of entertainment. In time this show will progress to have more of a polished touch to it. The sound is going to fluctuate in highs and lows as I'm still figuring out the program. But other then that aside, I have some amazing episodes lined up for your entertainment. I'm excited to have some episodes to talk about my book Inglorious Ink. I'm hyped for the episodes regarding film, TV, and media in general. It's all anyone can talk about and I'm happy to yak on it. The world of podcasting is still an intimidating and overwhelming process to jump into, but I got the bull by the horns and I'm not letting go. Let's get this show on the road (well the internet form of the road). Tune into next weeks episode : What Is Dark Humor? Until the next episode airs, you can find me on all these outlets.
