This podcast is dedicated to those who haven't read the bible. I haven't. In fact I'm reading it as i'm recording this podcast. Thoughts do come up, some thoughtful, some philosophical, but almost always dumb. The goal is to read the bible cover to cover and have a few laughs at the expense of "The Good Book" and maybe the greater world around us. Not intended to belittle, but to just have some fun with what I am reading as I am reading it.

Welcome to the official podcast of the Holy Bible! Join comedians Sean McLoughlin and Eliot J Fallows (from Chortle Award nominated podcast 'Heal Your Wounds') as they delve into the good book so you don't have to. This podcast is brought to you by the good people at BibleCorp. Follow the show on Twitter @BiblePod (http://www.twitter.com/biblepod) .

‘I have written a blasphemous book’, said Melville when his novel was first published in 1851, ‘and I feel as spotless as the lamb’. Deeply subversive, in almost every way imaginable, Moby-Dick is a virtual, alternative bible – and as such, ripe for reinterpretation in this new world of new media. Out of Dominion was born its bastard child – or perhaps its immaculate conception – the Moby-Dick Big Read: an online version of Melville’s magisterial tome: each of its 135 chapters read out aloud ...

The Bible is Lit has two styles of episodes, Story Time and Talking Time. Story Time episodes are short paraphrases of Bible passages in the style of an awkward and overly earnest youth pastor. Talking Time episodes feature interviews where I talk about passages from Story Time episodes in depth with a guest cohost. The presentation may be occasionally silly, but it is rooted in years of academic study and youth ministry. And ancient texts do not connect with those who don't read or listen t ...

One of the intriguing features of 1 Timothy 6:3–19 is the way Paul’s argument cuts back and forth. There are four blocks. In the first (1 Tim. 6:3–5), Paul warns against those who teach false doctrines and describes the character of the false teachers with whom he is dealing. One of their motives is “financial gain” (1 Tim. 6:5): they are less inte…

Plagues were something we did not think about much in our time before this past year. Suddenly the reality of the need to protect ourselves and to “avoid like the plague”, well, the plague of COVID, changed our world. But there is better plague insurance than the masks we wear, found in the word of God. Bible Reading: Exodus 9-12 Scripture Verse of…

Now Qoheleth, the teacher, looks at time (Eccl. 3:1–17). In isolation, verses 2–8 could be taken in several different ways. They might relativize everything: there is a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to love and a time to hate, and so forth. For some this means that no moral distinctions are to be made. Others might hope to shape their own…

Ok, true story. I have never been stung by a bee. I feared being stung by a bee so much that I avoided them like the plague, well, that is not entirely true, because I remember as a little girl capturing bees in jars and shaking them up then letting them go. Don’t ask. I was an interesting kid. But the good news is that the sting we could not avoid…

Psalms and Wisdom: Psalm 105 Psalm 105 (Listen) Tell of All His Wondrous Works 105 Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! 2 Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works! 3 Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice! 4 Seek the LORD and his strength; …

Before probing the argument of Ecclesiastes 2, I must pick up one line from chapter 1. Setting himself to explore by wisdom “all that is done under heaven,” the Teacher concludes, “What a heavy burden God has laid on men!” (Eccl. 1:13). Some might think this utterance springs more from bitterness than from faith, but at least it demonstrates that Q…

Battling unbelief is key to obtaining God’s promises. We get to choose what we believe in, but it will be a fight. Bible Reading: Mark 9-10 Scripture Verse of the Day: Mark 9:23 “But Jesus said to him, ‘If You can? All things are possible for the one who believes.'”โดย Denise Pass

The author of Ecclesiastes is (in transliterated Hebrew) Qoheleth, pronounced Ko-hellet or Ko-helleth. The word is connected with the idea of assembling, and “Qoheleth” probably means something like “leader of the assembly” or even “one who addresses the assembly.” Probably the assembly was religious (we would say “ecclesiastical”), yet Qoheleth is…

Old Testament: Deuteronomy 31–32 Deuteronomy 31–32 (Listen) Joshua to Succeed Moses 31 So Moses continued to speak these words to all Israel. 2 And he said to them, “I am 120 years old today. Looking backward does not help us move forward. The past does not define us, but it can inform us on how best to live in the present and to plan for the future. Proverbs 31 focuses, in two different ways, on women. In the first part (Prov. 31:1–9), the text offers us the “Sayings of King Lemuel” (of whom we know very little)—but although these sayings are “of King Lemuel” in the sense that he authorized them or made them known, they are alternatively described as “an oracle his mother taught him” (Prov. 31…

Several times in this book there is a formula of the sort, “For x things such-and-such, and for x+1 this-and-that.” For instance, Proverbs 6:16–19 begins, “There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him.” Then the list begins: “haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, …
