Do you know how old the earth is? Depending on your worldview, you may answer this question differently. According to radio-isotope dating, it is about 4.6 Billion years old. But, according to a Biblical worldview, the earth is much younger. So how does radioisotope dating work? Are there any flaws in the methodology? Does it conclusively prove the earth could not possibly be young?

Today on Educate For Life, Kevin is speaking with Dr. Jay Wile. Dr. Jay Wile holds an earned Ph.D. from the University of Rochester in nuclear chemistry. He has presented numerous lectures on the topics of Nuclear Chemistry, Christian Apologetics, Homeschooling, and Creation vs. Evolution. He has published lots of articles on these subjects in nationally recognized journals and has authored or co-authored 13 award-winning science textbooks. He is best known as the author of award-winning elementary, junior, and senior high school science courses including the Science through HisStory, “Discovering Design with…”, and “Exploring Creation with…” series.

Having studied nuclear chemistry in detail, Dr. Jay Wile knows many of the ins and outs of how radio-isotope dating. He has witnessed the process of testing samples and then choosing which data points to use from that sample. In other words, he has watched scientists eliminate certain possible ages of a sample simply because it doesn’t make sense to those scientists. To simplify it, scientists are picking the age range of a sample instead of considering all the available data.
